Dealing with the loss of a loved one, can be a very difficult experience that we all will go through in our lifetime. Grief will effect each of us differently and it is a common and natural emotion that can effect you mentally and physically. The loss of a relative, friend, or a beloved pet can be a very emotional and traumatic event in our lives. Sadly, there is no quick fix or a specific amount of time it takes to recover from the loss of a loved one.
Grief is often described to have 5 stages. These are not in any order and can be experienced in different stages.
1. Denial, Numbness, Isolation, Non-belief
2. Anger, Blame, Guilt
3. Bargaining, Deals with God
4. Depression, Sadness, Crying
5. Acceptance
Family and friends can be a source of emotional comfort as well as outside sources like clergy, spiritual healers, social workers, and mental health specialists. For some people, grief can be debilitating and may not improve even after a significant amount of time has passed. This can be a sign of complicated grief which can lead to major depression that requires medical attention.
Faith can be a great source of strength when dealing with your grief. Death is part of the great circle of life, but I find comfort knowing that Spirit never dies. Spirit is eternal. For many, death is a morbid thing to talk about because it is associated with so much grief and finality. I like to look at death as a new birth or beginning for the deceased. In that context, death isn’t so final or morbid. Once again, I find comfort knowing that Spirit never dies. The body is just a vessel the spirit uses. We may not have the physical presence of the deceased to hold or do things with, but Spirit is eternal. Spirit transcends death and can be with you lovingly, long after death.
Since the spirit of a loved one transcends death, you may feel their presence in many different ways. You may smell aromas that remind you of them. You may start to experience synchronistic events that can seem ironic in nature that trigger memories of them. Many times the spirit of a loved one will visit us in our dreams. These occurrences may be perceived as paranormal, but I see them as natural ways for spirits to remind us that their spirit lives on. These spiritual events are more common than you may realize.
My maternal grandmother had a magnet on her refrigerator that read, “God is Love”. It is through love that we are all connected. Love is eternal and everlasting. In my book, Metaphysics and Lore, I write about my own spiritual awakening. In the book, I write about being visited in a dream by my uncle the night he died. In my dream, he told me he was dead. I now know spirit transcends death and you don’t have to be a shaman to communicate with deceased loved ones. You only need love. It is through the everlasting eternal love that spiritual communication happens. It isn’t difficult as some would have you believe. You only have to change your perception and awareness for you to feel and communicate with the spirit of the deceased. Remember it is a true love connection and that connection is eternal and everlasting.
There is a time and a season for everything. There is no such thing as a coincidence, so pay close attention to the ironic or synchronistic events that take place. That is the spiritual telephone trying to get your attention. The more you take notice of these events and really try to perceive them, the more spiritually aware you will become.
Many times people feel the need for a psychic reading and that is okay, but it isn’t always necessary. A psychic reading can help give someone healing or validation of things, but try to remember that every person is psychic. It is all in the awareness and perception we use. We all have the spiritual telephone from which to communicate. It is called love. Love is the eternal connection that allows spirit to transcend death and it is through love that spirit can communicate with us.
Grief from the loss of a loved one stems from our love and it is through love that we can conquer our grief. Love truly can conquer all.
Blessed Be
